01 · Context
The Horses (@thehorses_ec1) is the latest opening from Public House Group, the team behind The Pelican, The Hero and The Hart. DMP featured it three days after it opened in Clerkenwell.
02 · The challenge
Interiors inspired by Britain’s coastline and by Clerkenwell’s proximity to the former Smithfield fish market, without turning the space into a nautical theme.
03 · Our role
DMP’s role was editorial. DMP Guide is DMP’s independent format: DMP visits in person and shares its perspective. The venue and its design belong to Public House Group and its team.
04 · What the feature highlights
- A coastal story told with dark oak, marble, brass and leather, amber stained glass recalling sea glass, wool curtains referencing fishing nets, and curved joinery developed with a Southampton shipyard
- Antique brass details salvaged from an ocean liner
- An experience that evolves across the floors, from pub to oyster bar, open kitchen and seafood dining room
- A menu that follows the same logic: British oysters and daily catches alongside pork pies, fish sandwiches and other pub classics
05 · Why it matters
Nothing feels overly themed or overly polished. Good hospitality design is not about making every detail noticeable. It is about making every detail belong to the same story.
